Learned to drive in a Austin 1100 with a HUGE steering wheel. If you went around a bend at night you never knew whether to use your left foot to change gear first or dip the lights - much to the annoyance of cars coming towards you!
My first car was a black Hillman Imp. There was more water INSIDE the car than outside when it rained! Also it had a warped cylinder head. It spent more time being attached to a rope behind my dad's Landrover than it did going along on its own! It was during this period that I learned a lot of new swear words and new ways to describe a car from my Dad - Bless Him!!!
Upgraded to a white Vauxhall Viva which my dad sprayed red - cor, there's posh! Great car but the steering wheel did come off in my hand whilst I was driving around Cardiff!
Sold that and bought a mustard colour Toyota 1000. Upgraded that for a brand new Toyota Corolla [V Reg - 1979 I think].
First BMW - Y Reg E21. Then E30 - C Reg. Followed by E34 - H Reg
We did own a lovely Jaguar XJS. Most luxurious but did not keep it long because we did not want to leave it anywhere, it did not fit into car parking spaces, we had to knock down the gate pillars and widen them plus the workbench at the rear of the garage had to be dismantled just to get the whole car in coz it was so long! There was also a strong possibility of falling asleep at the wheel because it was so quiet and comfortable!
This was replaced with our current E39 5 Series. You will see from my other thread that we currently own 5 vehicles between us [6 if you count my daughter's car]
